Cathy (on the right) was working on this wedding quilt for her son and daughter-in-law when she lived here. She made half of the blocks; the ones with the white background. The mother of the bride made the blocks with the black background.  Cathy said she entered it into a local quilt show and the gorgeous quilt won Best-in-Show! Congratulations!

Making Sleep Masks for Charity

A woman I know sent this to me, asking for members of the groups I belong to help make some of these sleep masks. If anyone who is reading this would also like to help out please feel free to make some masks and/or invite your sewing/quilts groups to also help out.

Here is the info Cathy sent to me~

These sleep masks are going to the Missionaries of Charity which was established in Kolkata, India by Mother Teresa in 1958, where the Mother started treating patients with leprosy or Hansen's disease. This colony has grown to a community of 650 lepers and their families who survive with the basic support of the Missionaries of Charity. They work for what they are given; food, clothes, shelter, and medicine. But their needs are far greater. Hansen's disease affects the peripheral nerves to hands and feet, as well as to faces. Many can no longer close their eye lids to protect their eyes from bugs, dust particles, wind and sun. We are hoping to answer this need by sending with my sister Susie, sunglasses and also sleep masks when she goes to Prem Nivas to volunteer mid January, 2013. Thank you for making one, or many. Another wonderful way to use our scraps!! I will need these before Christmas.

One Block Wonder quilt top.

Squares sew on a fabric. The maker of this and the top below says she washes the top a couple of times and then she quilts it. The washing will make the raw edges of the sewn squares have an unraveled look. Hope she brings the finished quilt back so we can see the results.

 The following photos are from the fabric kimono class that Donna C. taught us how to make. Look at all the different fabrics and how great the kimonos look:


Back view of the kimono. Linda L. used the same fabric for the lining as the kimono exterior fabric.

We each brought Donna a fat quarter (or larger) as a thank you for teaching us how to make the kimonos. I made the coiled bowl as well.

Barb G.'s pillow top. Her mom passed away recently and Barb made pillows out of her mom's shower curtain. She added a green fabric behind the cutwork and added some lace trim. What a nice way to remember her mom.

Emma's tee-shirt pillow. Emma painted this tee-shirt (that was her husband's tee-shirt) and recently turned it into a pillow.

Gloria S.'s quilt top. Gloria used scraps of squares to create some blocks and the other blocks are from a panel that was intended for making a cloth book for a child. Gloria turned it into a quilt instead of a book.
